Dr. Jerry Shawhan – Advanced Math

12th Grade Pre-Calculus

Dr. Jerry Shawhan earned a Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering in 1958 and Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1966 from the University of Cincinnati. He began his career as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cincinnati. Recently, he retired as Treasurer and Group Executive at Cincom Systems where he was employed for 40 years. He now teaches upper level mathematics part time at the Academy. Longime parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, Dr. Shawhan sings in the choir and his wife serves as sacristan. Mrs. Cathy Koloc – Science

7th & 8th Grade Science

Mrs. Cathy Koloc is a 1990 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with an associate degree in physical therapy. She has taught various subjects at the Academy over the past ten years, including anatomy and physiology, science, health, and Spanish. One of her greatest joys is in watching her students learn and truly understand the subject at hand. She is currently teaching part time, while also working in rehabilitation at geriatric and acute levels. Six of her eight children are Academy alumni, and two are currently enrolled students. Mr. Richard Ayres – Latin and Greek Teacher

5th-12th Grade Latin and Greek

Mr. Rick Ayres has 42 years of teaching experience in English, French, Latin, and Chinese. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in French with a minor in English from the University of Kentucky, and Master of Arts in Teaching in Linguistics from the University of Louisville. After a long service at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, he joined the Academy in September 2014 to teach Latin. He also serves on the Classical Curriculum Accreditation Team. Having led many student travel groups to China, Tibet, Russia, Australia, and France, he brings a global perspective to the classroom. Mrs. Heather Reist – Math

7th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Math

Mrs. Heather Reist is in her fourth year of teaching at the Academy. She not only teaches multiple math classes, but drives the overall strategy of the math curriculum as a member of the Classical Curriculum Accreditation team. She has a Bachelor of Arts in middle grade education with a focus in mathematics and social studies from Northern Kentucky University where she will complete a Master of Arts in teaching with a focus in gifted and talented education in the spring of 2018. Before joining our staff, Mrs. Reist taught 8th grade math at Twenhofel Middle School for four years. Mrs. Reist and her husband, an Academy alumnus, have three young children, and are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email: hreist@icaohio.com

Mrs. Sheri Schoech – Math

5th, 6th & 7th Grade Math

Mrs. Sheri Schoech has served on Immaculate Conception Academy staff as a teachers aide and teacher for our Math program for the past five years. Prior to that she homeschooled her children for over 10 years and help tutor other students.  Mrs. Schoech and her husband moved to Cincinnati in 2007 to enroll their children in the Academy She and her family are parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church.  Email: sschoech@icaohio.com

Miss Maria Reist – 5 – 8 Grade

5th, 6th Homeroom Teacher, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Grammar and History

Miss Maria Reist, a 2013 alumna of the Academy, is in her first year as a full-time member of our faculty team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, and in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies from the University of Kentucky. She previously worked as a tutor for students of English as a second language, and as a writing consultant at the Robert E. Hemenway Writing Center. In addition, she has experience as a substitute teacher at the Academy. Miss Reist is a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, and is actively involved in the Church Choir.  Email: mreist@icaohio.com

 Mrs. Valerie Orza – 4th Grade

4th Grade

Mrs. Valerie Orza is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and is a licensed K-12 teacher in the state of Ohio. Although this is Mrs. Orza’s first year teaching in her own classroom, she has been in the field of education for quite some time. She provided her own children with the foundation of a Classical Christian Education homeschool experience. For the past few years she has also been a substitute teacher at Norwood View. Mrs. Orza is actively involved in the Norwood community. She founded the Norwood Community Orchestra and acts as the group’s principal violinist.  Miss Lorryn Cruz – Science, Biology, Chemistry

5th and 6th Grade Science, 9th and 10th Grade Biology, 11th and 12th Grade Chemistry

Miss Lorryn Cruz is new to our staff this year and a graduate of Hillsdale College and the University of Michigan School of Education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in History, a Master of Arts in Educational Studies, and a Michigan Standard Secondary Certificate in 6-12 History. Over the course of the past 9 years, she has volunteered at Therapeutic Riding, Incorporated; delivered pizzas for Hungry Howie’s; and played on the Hillsdale College Women’s Soccer Club, after which she volunteered as the assistant coach.  Mrs. Lisa Capetillo – 3rd Grade

3rd Grade 

Mrs. Lisa Capetillo has served on Immaculate Conception Academy’s staff in numerous capacities for the past 13 years. She has an Associate’s degree in Applied Science, and is a Registered Dietetic Technician. At the Academy she has worn many hats, as a teacher, lunch and recess monitor, and librarian. Lisa also assists as Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer team. Her husband is an active volunteer serving as groundskeeper for the church and school complex, and Assistant Coach for Girls and Boys Varsity Soccer teams.  Miss Abigail Wittman – 1st Grade

1st Grade

Miss Abby Wittman, a 2009 alumna of the Academy, is in her fifth year as part of our faculty team. She holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Miami University, and previously worked as a substitute Kindergarten teacher for Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School.  She has a reputation for her attention to each individual student, and for her creative teaching methods including the much-loved “Phonics Dance.” Miss Wittman is an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email: awittman@icaohio.com

 Mrs. Kendall Harrison – Kindergarten

Kindergarten Teacher and K-3rd Grade Mentor

Mrs. Kendall Harrison is a 2000 alumna of Immaculate Conception Academy and is in her sixth year as Kindergarten teacher. She has a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education from the College of Mount St. Joseph with a minor in special education. Before joining the Academy, she taught Kindergarten at Seven Hills School for seven years. She is the elementary mentor responsible for overseeing the faculty and students in Kindergarten through grade 3, and is part of the Classical Curriculum Accreditation Team. Mrs. Harrison’s husband, Chris, also a graduate of the Academy, coaches the Boys Varsity Basketball team.  Miss Mary Margaret Shawhan – 2nd Grade

2nd Grade

Miss Mary Margaret Shawhan, a former Academy student joined the Academy staff in 2016 as an elementary teacher assistant, Miss Shawhan helped teachers with large class sizes, managed class work groups and subsitute teached as needed. She also taught seventh and eight grade history this past year. Miss Shawhan was homeschooled, graduating in 2013, then worked at a children’s resale store and as a receptionist. She has also volunteered her time serving at a pro-life resale shop. She is a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email: mshawhan@icaohio.com

 Mrs. Judy Schultes – School Office

Office Manager

Mrs. Judy Schultes has been managing the school office for ten years. She and her husband moved to Cincinnati in 2007 to enroll their son in the Academy. Mrs. Schultes has a background in resort management and advertising. Prior to moving here, she worked as a Sales Manager for Teischer Organization in Pennsylvania for four years. Mrs. Schultes is responsible for the overall management of the day to day office activities and communications. Mrs. Angela Capetillo – Bursar

Bursar

Mrs. Angela Capetillo is responsible for the overall operations of financial services at the Academy and provides counsel in financial management and fiscal policies to ensure compliance. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati with a focus in accounting, and has ten years experience as an Assistant Auditor for the State of Ohio where she reviewed financial records of tax funded governments. Mrs. Capetillo and her husband are 2002 alumni of the Academy, lifelong parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, and their children are enrolled at the Academy.
