Mrs. Terry Brinkman –  Orton-Gillingham Tutor

Mrs. Terry Brinkman joined the Immaculate Conception Academy staff in 2018, and as an IDA Certified Orton-Gillingham Tutor, she tutors students K-8 in reading.  Mrs. Brinkman graduated from the University of Cincinnati and pursued a career as a buyer for Federated Department Stores.  After eight years, she focused on raising her four children as well as volunteering at their schools, teaching at Antonelli College and St. Vincent de Paul Elementary.  Mrs. Brinkman completed a year-long Orton-Gillingham certification at the Dyslexia Center of Cincinnati in 2008 and tutored at St. Bernard Elementary School until 2018.  She is excited to be working with the students at Immaculate Conception Academy.  Email:

Dr. Jerry Shawhan – Advanced Math

12th Grade Pre-Calculus

Dr. Jerry Shawhan earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in 1958 and a PhD.  in Mathematics in 1966 from the University of Cincinnati. He began his 22 year career at the University in a number of administrative positions and as Adjunct Associate Professor of Mathematics. In 2016, he retired as Treasurer and Group Executive at Cincom Systems, a Cincinnati based software company, where he worked for 33 years. Dr. Shawhan now teaches upper level mathematics part time at the Academy. Longtime parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, he was Treasurer of the Church and Academy for 35 years, and his wife, Marian still serves as sacristan. They have seven children (two now deceased), and have 47 grandchildren. Email:

Mrs. Cathy Koloc – Science

7th & 8th Grade Science

Mrs. Cathy Koloc is a 1990 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with an associate degree in physical therapy. She has taught various courses at the Academy over the past ten years, including Anatomy and Physiology, Science, Health, and Spanish. One of her greatest joys is in watching her students learn and truly understand the subject at hand. She is currently teaching part time, while also working in rehabilitation at geriatric and acute levels. Mrs. Koloc and her husband, Dan have eight children. Six of whom are Academy alumni, and two of whom are currently enrolled. Mrs. Koloc and her family are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

Mr. Richard Ayres – Latin and Greek Teacher

5th-12th Grade Latin and Greek

Mr. Rick Ayres has 45 years of teaching experience in English, French, Latin, and Chinese. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in French with a minor in English from the University of Kentucky, and Master of Arts in Teaching in Linguistics from the University of Louisville. After years at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Ayres joined the Academy in September 2014 to teach Latin. He also serves on the academy’s Classical Curriculum Accreditation Team. Having led many student travel groups to China, Tibet, Russia, Australia, and France, Mr. Ayres brings a global perspective to the classroom.  Mr. Ayres and his family are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

Mrs. Heather Reist – Mathematics

7th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Math

Mrs. Heather Reist is in her fifth year of teaching at the Academy. She not only teaches multiple math classes, but drives the overall strategy of the math curriculum as a member of the Classical Curriculum Accreditation team.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grade Education with a focus in mathematics and social studies from Northern Kentucky University.  In spring of 2018 Mrs. Reist completed a Master of Arts in Education with a focus in gifted and talented education.  Before joining the Academy faculty, Mrs. Reist taught algebra and Pre-Algebra at Twenhofel Middle School for four years.  Mrs. Reist and her husband, Barry, an Academy alumnus, have three young children, and are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

Mrs. Sheri Schoech – Mathematics

5th, 6th & 7th Grade Math

Mrs. Sheri Schoech has served on the Immaculate Conception Academy staff as a teachers aide and as a teacher for our Math program for the past five years. Prior to joining the Academy faculty, she home schooled her own children for over 10 years while also tutoring other students.  Mrs. Schoech and her husband, Michael and their seven children moved to Cincinnati in 2007 to enroll their children at the Academy. Miss Maria Reist – 5 – 8 Grade

5th, 6th Homeroom Teacher, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Grammar and History

Miss Maria Reist, a 2013 alumna of Immaculate Conception, is in her first year as a full-time faculty member at the Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, and in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies from the University of Kentucky. She previously worked as a tutor for students of English as a second language, and as a writing consultant at the Robert E. Hemenway Writing Center.  In addition, she has previously served as a substitute teacher at the Academy.  Miss Reist is a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and sings in the Church Choir.  Email:

 Mrs. Valerie Orza – 4th Grade

4th Grade

Mrs. Valerie Orza joined the Academy faculty in August 2017.  She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and is a licensed K-12 teacher in the state of Ohio. She has been in the field of education for quite some time. Mrs. Orza provided her own children with the foundation of a Classical Christian Education homeschool experience. She previously served as a substitute teacher at Norwood View Elementary School. Mrs. Orza is actively involved in the Norwood community.  She founded the Norwood Community Orchestra and acts as the group’s principal violinist. Mrs. Orza is a member of school board and has been a candidate for City Council.  Email:

 Miss Lorryn Cruz – Science, Biology, Chemistry

5th and 6th Grade Botany, 9th and 10th Grade Biology, 11th and 12th Grade Chemistry

Miss Lorryn Cruz is a graduate of Hillsdale College in Michigan and the University of Michigan School of Education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in History and Chemistry, a Master of Arts in Educational Studies, and holds a Michigan Standard Secondary Certificate in 6-12 History. Over the course of the past 9 years, she has volunteered at Therapeutic Riding, Incorporated; and played on the Hillsdale College Women’s Soccer Club, after which she volunteered as the assistant coach. She was baptized into the Catholic Church on Holy Saturday of 2018.  Email:

 Mrs. Lisa Capetillo – 3rd Grade

3rd Grade 

Mrs. Lisa Capetillo teaches third grade a the Academy after co-teaching grade 3 and serving as Elementary Aide (K-3) for several years. Mrs. Capetillo has also served on Immaculate Conception Academy’s faculty and staff in multiple other capacities for the past 13 years, including teacher, lunch and recess monitor, and librarian. She has an Associate’s degree in Applied Science, and is a Registered Dietetic Technician.  Mrs. Capetillo is also the Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer team. Her husband is an active volunteer serving as groundskeeper for the church and school complex, and Assistant Coach for Girls and Boys Varsity Soccer teams. The Capetillos are parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church and their son is enrolled at the Academy.  Email:

 Miss Abigail Wittman – 1st Grade

1st Grade

Miss Abby Wittman, a 2009 alumna of the Academy, has served as the Academy’s first grade teacher since 2012. Miss Wittman holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Miami University, and previously worked as a substitute Kindergarten teacher for Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School.  She is known for her attention to each individual student, and for her creative teaching methods including the much-loved “Phonics Dance.” Miss Wittman is an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

 Mrs. Kendall Harrison – Kindergarten

Kindergarten Teacher and K-3rd Grade Mentor

Mrs. Kendall Harrison is a 2000 alumna of Immaculate Conception Academy and is in her sixth year as Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Harrison has a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education with a minor in Special Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph. Before joining the Academy, she taught Kindergarten at Seven Hills School for seven years. She is the elementary mentor responsible for overseeing the faculty and students in Kindergarten through grade 3, and is part of the Classical Curriculum Accreditation Team. Mrs. Harrison’s husband, Chris, also a graduate of the Academy, coaches the Boys Varsity Basketball team. They are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church and their two children attend the Academy.  Email:

 Miss Mary Margaret Shawhan – 2nd Grade

2nd Grade

Miss Mary Margaret Shawhan, a home schooled student who also attended the Academy,  joined the Academy staff in 2016 as an elementary teacher assistant, Miss Shawhan assisted teachers at the K-3 levels with large class sizes, managed class work groups and was a substitute teacher as needed. She also taught seventh and eight grade History this past year. Miss Shawhan was home schooled, graduating in 2013, then worked at a children’s resale store and as a receptionist.  She has also volunteered her time serving at a pro-life resale shop. She is a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

 Mrs. Judy Schultes – School Office

Office Manager

Mrs. Judy Schultes has been managing the school office since April 2008. Mrs. Schultes is responsible for the overall management of the day to day office activities and communications. She and her family moved to Cincinnati in 2007 to enroll their son in the Academy. Mrs. Schultes has a background in resort management and advertising. Prior to moving here, she worked as a Sales Manager for Teischer Organization in Pennsylvania for four years.  She and her family are parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.  Email:

Mrs. Angela Capetillo – Bursar


Mrs. Angela Capetillo is responsible for the overall financial management of the Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati with a focus in accounting. Mrs. Capetillo has ten years experience as an Assistant Auditor for the State of Ohio where she reviewed and audited financial records of tax funded municipal governments. Mrs. Capetillo and her husband are 2002 alumni of the Academy and lifelong parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church. Mr. and Mrs. Capetillo are the parents of six children, two of whom are enrolled at the Academy. Email:
